What is Henna?
Henna Temporary Tattoos are an ancient and traditional art of the Middle East, India, and Northern Africa. For over 5,000 years, artists have practiced this beautiful and mysterious art of painting on the body using preparations made from the henna plant. Since henna is in the same flora family as tea, it is essentially a tea stain for your skin. The Art of Mehndi is done using natural henna powder to stain the skin temporarily. Celebrations such as marriage and pregnancy, exotic ritual, or just having fun with friends, are all special occasions to enjoy getting Henna Tattoos.
Henna is used in creating intricate, ethnic or contemporary, designs and exotic patterns on various parts of the body, though traditionally applied to the hands and feet of women preparing for special ceremonies. It has also been known for centuries for it's medicinal properties, as a cosmetic, and it's superb hair conditioning and coloring properties. It is completely painless as it does not penetrate the skin like a regular tattoo does.
Stains from the henna paste (made of natural powder from the dried leaves and other natural ingredients), are the result of the dye in the henna powder releasing when added to lemon juice, as it is applied to skin or hair.
The paste is applied to the top of the skin and has a cooling effect while drying. Henna is one of the safest conditioners you can put on your skin!
BLACK HENNA WARNING:
Henna is NOT black.
Henna does NOT cause blisters and open sores.
PPD black hair dye in henna CAN cause blisters and sores.
There are several things marketed as "Black Henna", and some things believed to be "Black Henna". Some are very dangerous.
When para-phenylenediamine (PPD) is used to make black temporary tattoos, often called “black henna”, it can cause blistering, open sores, scarring, and lifelong health problems. Para-phenylendiamine based black hair dye should never be put straight on your skin, plain, or mixed with other material. Synthetic Black Hair Dye is illegal to put on skin, because that is not an approved use. (www.thehennapage.com)
I have met several people with these scars and they got them while on vacation in Mexico. SO be careful and make sure you're getting a henna tattoo made with ONLY 100% all natural ingredients!!! If they don't know what's in it - don't you dare let them put it on your skin! It is always safe to do a patch test to make sure you are not allergic to any of the ingredients. As mentioned above, I use ONLY 100% ALL NATURAL INGREDIENTS! I mix the paste MYSELF prior to your appointment.
